Nordic report Future system inertia

Power system inertia is defined as the ability of a power system to oppose changes in system frequency due to the resistance provided by rotating masses. Inertia is dependent on the amount of kinetic energy stored in rotating masses connected to the power system. The Nordic power system will change in the years to come - renewable production will replace old condensing power plants, and production units and HVDC-connections become larger. This will result in greater imbalances that will arise and lead to potentially larger frequency deviations.
