Workshops

During the project, a total of seven workshops covering specific subjects will be conducted. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or comments with work package leaders. Here you can find further information about the workshops that have been carried out in the past.

6th Stakeholder Workshop: “Enhanced pan-European Transmission Planning Methodology”

On May 28th and May 29th 2015, the 6th e-Highway2050 workshop took place. The purpose of this workshop was to present and exchange on an enhanced methodology using optimization methods for long-term transmission expansion planning over large systems in the scope of the workpackage 8 of the e-Highway2050 project.

  • The developed approach aims at finding the optimal design of a large grid including its modular development plan over a long time horizon.
  • Advanced optimization and simulation methods have been investigated to tackle this very large and complex problem, which includes highly combinatorial aspects and stochastic behaviors of system components, while taking into account controls embedded in the system.
  • Preliminary results were presented too, followed by discussions.

5th Stakeholder Workshop: Governance structures for the e-Highway2050 scenarios and the e-Highway2050 Strategic and Environmental Sustainability Assessment (SESA)

The workshop took place on May 6th, 2014, at Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Brussels.

The contents and objectives of the workshop were:

1. Morning Session: The e-Highway2050 workpackage 5 is developing target governance models to encompass the best performing grid architectures identified for the e-Highways2050 scenarios. Through a methodology which was presented during the workshop, an existing or new combination of promising governance elements was proposed per scenario. Interaction and discussions with stakeholders on preliminary results provided input on assumptions, criteria and relevant aspects for the detailed analysis of governance options.

2. Afternoon session: The e-Highway2050 workpackage 4 is developing EH2050's Strategic Environmental and Sustainability Assessment (SESA) which is assessing the risks and opportunities of the main strategic options that are being considered for future grid architectures. The identified risks and opportunities will then inform the development of guidelines supporting sustainable pathways for grid-development. The main objectives of the SESA part of the workshop were to:

  • Validate the preliminary strategic environmental and sustainability assessment findings with stakeholders
  • Discuss possible measures to integrate risks and opportunities
  • Raise awareness of e-Highway2050 amongst key stakeholders

4th Stakeholder Workshop: Power System Technologies 2050 - Their Potential Contributions to Modular Development Plans of the Pan-European Transmission Network

The workshop took place on April 15th, 2014, at Eurelectric’s premises in Brussels.
 
The purpose of this one-day event was to uncover the key features of a new  database, which mainly covers technical and cost performances by 2050 of a set of selected power system technologies.

  • The database contents were used as inputs to the simulation tasks of  the e-Highway2050  project, which will deliver a set of pan-European network modular development plans.
  • This workshop also provided the attendees with an unique opportunity to debate on the assumptions underlying the construction of that database, and to identify complementary work which may have been carried-out in the recent past at Member State level.

3rd Stakeholder Workshop: Cost Benefit Analysis Methodology for the Modular Development Plan of the Pan-European Transmission Network at 2050

March 20th, 2014, 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. (CET) at Hotel MARTIN'S Central Park in Brussels.

  • On 20th March 2014, the e-Highway2050 workshop "A pan-European Cost Benefit Analysis methodology for the modular development plan of the pan-European transmission network at 2050" took place in Brussels.
  • Project partners and European stakeholders discussed the cost-benefit methodology proposed by the project for analyzing new investments on the pan-European transmission corridors up to 2050. The workshop's active debate provided valuable input for the finalization of the approach.

2nd Stakeholder Workshop: Generation Adequacy on the Electricity Supply-Demand-Balance in Europe for 2050

The workshop took place on October 10th, 2013 in Brussels.

The objective of the second e-Highway2050 stakeholder workshop was to present and exchange on the methodology built to assess the energy mix and load in 2050 at the Pan-European level for each scenario already defined by the project and to discuss the actual first results of quantification.

1st Stakeholder Workshop: Boundary Conditions and Scenarios Identification for the 2050 Transmission System

The workshop took place on January 23rd, 2013 with 57 participants at the ENTSO-E – premises in Brussels.

The objectives were to define the scope of the study, the so-called ”boundary conditions”, and to define a robust methodology for the identification of energy scenarios. The scenarios will be used all along the project in order to foresee the possible development of the transmission network in Europe
